Dear Emma,
Yesterday was an enormously big day for you, in many ways.
Yesterday was the first day that you wore big girl "unnerwear" ALL day, except during nap time. Emma Sue, I was SO proud of you! You stayed dry almost all day! We had one accident while we were playing with Joy outside and you didn't want to leave your tea party to go potty. Other than that, you had zero accidents. Way to go!
What was once a funny part of your cute little newborn life, has become quite the problem as a 2-year old. When you were first born, my dear, your bowel movements were explosive. I'm talking - shooting across the room and splattering all over the wall and anything in its path, explosive. It truly was a sight to behold.
When you turned 2, going poop became a problem for you. I'm not going to sugar coat it sweets, you've had a rough time. You had a painful poop right before your second birthday and ever since, you hold it in as long as you can. When it finally forces itself out, you are crying and yelling and it is HUGE. I feel so bad for you! We've tried helping you to see that if you let it out the first time you feel it coming, then it will not hurt.
This brings us to yesterday. For two days now (it has been six days since your last one), you have been holding back. Since we are in big girl underwear now, I have to race you to the toilet every time I see it coming. It is very obvious because you stand very still and don't speak and you slowly bend your hips to the side and you grunt. At first, I thought you had constipation. All the signs are there. However, this mama recognized very quickly that you are trying to keep it in! So, I waged war on your poops. Straight juice, lots of water and fiber in your day. I digress.
Yesterday, I carried you to the potty more than six times and each time you managed to squeeze it back in and defy the toilet. Right before dinner, however, you stood up at the table and I knew it was coming. You started to cry and yelled "Mommy it's coming! Poop is coming out!" and I told you to just let it come. You looked down at your bottom and said "Come out poop! Let's go!" and out it came as I rushed you to the potty. Your words of encouragement brought it right out and Emma Sue... I've never seen a larger, more messy poo than the one you left yesterday... and that is saying a lot since I grew up with your three uncles.
You were so proud of yourself for going potty and I'll tell you what... you had a DRASTIC change in your attitude after it was out. Immediately you were back in a good mood and sweet as ever after two days of crankiness and lots of outbursts.
The biggest downfall? You were in big girl underwear and there was poo everywhere! On top of that, the toilet plugged up. Oh yes my dear, I'm not even joking with you... the toilet plugged up. Quite an accomplishment for a two year old.
You picked out your sticker for your potty chart and then you earned yourself a possible (popsicle). A purple one by choice. After you finished the popsicle, you said "That was a really good possible Mommy!" "That was a really good possible Daddy!"
You earned it dear one
You earned it.
