22 Months!

Happy 22 Month Birthday, Emma Sue

My, my, my. How do I begin to record all that has changed in the past month with you? We had some BIG firsts and lots to report, so let's get to it :)

  • The biggest change this month is that you were transitioned from your crib to a toddler bed! You were getting too good at trying to climb out of your crib and after a trip to WV and a night sleeping in a big bed, I knew that you were ready to be out of your crib. You transitioned amazingly well. We are very blessed! You love your big girl bed and although it takes a while longer to get you to sleep at night, you do a great job at staying in your bed until Mommy or Daddy come to get you. Such a big girl!
  • You no longer sit in my lap and rock to sleep at night. You are too big and you just can't seem to get comfortable. So, you request to go straight to your bed and you lay in bed and we sing a song after story and prayer time, and you fall asleep on your own now. This makes mommy sad, because I LOVED holding you to sleep for the 21 1/2 months that you allowed me too. I will miss holding you each night but I love our new routine also, so I guess it's ok :)
  • Just this past weekend, you told me you loved me for the first time all on your own, no prompting from me. You came over and hugged me and said "I you!", which is how you say I love you. Melted my heart! The next day, Daddy told you he loved you and you replied back to him with "I you too!". It made him all teary eyed and happy :)
  • You have informally moved up to the 2's & 3's room at church. You do not like to be in the nursery anymore and would rather be with the older kids. While it is sad to me that you are pretty much out of the nursery now, it is nice to see you enjoying play time with the "big" kids. I just cannot believe how fast your first two years of life are going / have gone.
  • You talk in sentences now and repeat almost everything we say. You say funny things like "boogers in nose" and "eat pizza?". You sing almost all of the words to Jesus Loves Me, you know ABC and can sing a lot of the ABC song. You count really funny:  "2", "5", "7"    That is the order you count in. For example, if I say "Emma, how many trees do you see? Can you count them"  you say "2, 5, 7!" :)
  • You are learning to ride on Joy's ride-on toys (our neighbor) and you love riding in your wagon. You go down the slide all by yourself now without holding on to Mommy's neck or hands on the way down. You have suddenly taken interest in swinging and will swing for longer than 30 seconds at a time :)  You love to play and you love to play with other kids. You are constantly asking for someone throughout the day. It is usually either Andrew, Andrea Geist, Joy, Hudson, Sammy, Aunt Stephanie or Bennett and Blake.  You just LOVE being around other kids a lot.
  • You had your first official scary incident/ resulting injury. Mommy was cooking you a hot dog and I moved to the sink to wash my hands and you decided to "help" me and you put your hand up on top of the hot stove and burnt three of your fingers :(  It was scary and Mommy cried but God protected you and your fingers were not badly burned and they healed right up!
  • You weigh 28 pounds and are now all moved into 2T size clothes but are still wearing a size 4 shoe. I am now starting to put you in size 5's just because we needed new summer shoes and I went a size up assuming your feet would someday grow again :)  You have tiny feet little one. If they don't grow soon I am afraid you will topple over all the time!
  • You like to wear hats now, for the first time since the day you were born. You actually pick them out, put them on your head and leave them on when we are outside. You still will not leave bows or barrettes in your hair for very long and your shoes come off almost immediately when you are riding in the car.
  • You like to color, you LOVE to read books, you are not a fan of puzzles, you like to play with balls and your favorite thing in the whole world right now is trains. You love Thomas the Train, real trains, and anything that sounds like a train. You point out tractors and semi's ("Big Truuuuck!") and you love watching the garbage truck dump the garbage still.
  • You still love music of all kinds and love to dance, clap your hands and spin in circles.
  • You successfully participated at Toddler Story Time last week and sang along and did all of the motions to "The Wheels On The Bus". I was so proud of you!
  • You still eat very well and are not really picky at all. You love mac & cheese, hot dogs, yogurt, fruit of all kinds, peas, corn, spaghetti with Parmesan cheese, applesauce, crackers of any kind, and sweets of any kind. You do not like broccoli or pretty much any other vegetable than peas and corn. You could eat fruit and drink milk all day and be perfectly happy with that.
  • We attempted to potty train you and you picked out big girl underwear, but after going through all 8 pairs of underwear in less than a day, I decided to wait another month and try again. You thought it was funny to watch the pee run down your legs and try to "catch it?" :)
  • You love Sarah Doggy, you love your Daddy, you love your Grandpa's, your Aunt Sepanie, your Mommy and Ms. Andrea. You give great hugs and even better kisses and you love when Daddy kisses Mommy on the cheek... it makes you laugh :)
You are a sweet girl and a special one at that. I believe God has GREAT things planned for your life. You bring us so much joy, laughter and fun. You are becoming more and more difficult to keep an eye on but I am loving every minute of your budding personality and your transformation from baby to toddler. It is hard to believe that you only have 2 months left of being my little 1-year old. You seem so grown up already, I cannot imagine what these updates will look like 1 more year from now!

We love you lots and lots and are so thankful for your little life!
